I purchased this to replace my speakers when I spotted that the power supply wire was damaged. I made up my mind to go for USB powered speakers as I do not use the PC for major listening and would prefer to reduce the amount of transformers attached to my plug sockets! Also my other PC came with similar speakers and I’m quite satisfied with those. They could also come in useful for those people that employ a laptop computer. The speakers are completely USB driven, using digital audio output as well as power from the USB port and they give an incredibly good and crisp sound, though you can not expect to get deep bass sounds. No installation was needed aside from plugging in.
The key feedback of the unit is that it doesn’t have a volume control knob or an on / off facility, but instead depends on 3 knobs to raise, lower or mute the sound, operating at once on the windows sound control in discrete jumps.
As a consequence you can’t tune the volume without accessing the appropriate control on the PC, and you cannot switch it off when you do not need any sound. Also I’m really not ardent on the light advertising its digital sound, which is always showing.
When the unit arrived there had been an a fault in the speaker on one side, shown by a slight rattle while playing deeper sounds at any volume, so I had to have it exchanged. I am absolutely sure Logitech should have done a more satisfactory job with their quality controls. Fortuitously Base were excellent and gave me a replacement without any argues.
